World of Outlaws visit Jackson Motorplex again in 2017, June 1-3 for Jackson Nationals
JACKSON, Minn. — December 9, 2016 — The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series will be part of the historic Jackson Nationals in 2017 at the Jackson Motorplex in Minnesota. The three-day event is set for Thursday, June 1, Friday, June 2 and Saturday, June 3.
Last year at Jackson Motorplex, Daryn Pittman was victorious, taking the lead from Joey Saldana on the second lap and holding off a late-race charge from Kerry Madsen. For Pittman, it was his second-career win at Jackson Motorplex in World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series competition. Four different drivers have won at Jackson in each of the last four Outlaws races at the track.
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series made their debut at Jackson in 1987, with Bobby Davis Jr. picking up the win. In 1988, 20-time series titlist Steve Kinser, and three-time titlist Sammy Swindell, split a pair of features at the half-time.
After a decade and a half away, the Outlaws returned to Jackson in 2004, with Kinser picking up his second-career win at the track. Pittman, who claimed the 2013 World of Outlaws championship, won at Jackson in 2005. Donny Schatz the eight-time and reigning series champion, picked up his first victory at the track in 2006 and scored a second win in 2013. Kinser was triumphant at the half-mile in 2010 for the third time in his career, which is the most of any driver with the series at Jackson.
In 10 A-Feature events for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series at Jackson Motorplex, six drivers have been victorious. Kinser, Pittman and Schatz are the only three drivers with multiple wins at the venue.
The 2016 campaign was a historic one for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series as Donny Schatz won his third straight championship and eighth overall. In the process, the North Dakota native became the first driver in series history to win 20-plus A-Feature events in four consecutive seasons, finishing the year with 25 A-Feature triumphs.
Schatz continues to add to his ever-growing win total with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, which now stands at 229 A-Feature victories. Schatz is third on the all-time list, trailing only Hall of Famers Steve Kinser and Sammy Swindell.
A total of 17 drivers won A-Feature events with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series in 2016, including full-time series drivers: Daryn Pittman, who finished second in points, David Gravel, who was third in the standings, Brad Sweet, who was fourth in points, Joey Saldana, who was fifth in the final tally, Shane Stewart, who was just behind Saldana, along with Jason Johnson, who was seventh in points, Logan Schuchart, who was eighth in the standings, Jason Sides, who was ninth and reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award winner Greg Wilson.
